Ten Things to Do if You’re Not at AWP
- Learn the art of macrame.
- Make a Diet Coke and Mentos fountain.
- Troll for men at the Apple Store.
- Troll for women in an improv class.
- Try the sport of wife carrying.
- Write a poem with Oprah.
- Turn your hair into a sunset.
- Knit yourself some Pokemon.
- Make sardine mini muffins.

I’m missing AWP this year to scrape brown paint from a dresser. I’m just about to gear up in work clothes and begin breathing in paint remover chemicals.
Later today I hope to walk 4.7 kilometers to the hazard waste dumping site. It’s a glamorous life I lead.
What about you?
Cross-stitching until my bones hurt. (Really.)
I’ve actually never been to AWP. I might never go to AWP. Maybe when they’re in Seattle.
But part of me would rather find out what a hazardous waste site looks like than sit through panels.
For your next post maybe you can include a picture of your cross stitch project.
I chickened out on the hazardous waste site. The route looked too walker-unfriendly. The site changes every week or so and next week’s site is a pleasant walk from my place. I wish you could join me.
Loved AWP in Denver, but have spent my conference money for a trip to CA in July. Will be writing and working and vicariously following AWP on Bark and Twitter these next days.
We’re coming up on the last two weeks before finals at work and the students (and I) are starting to resemble hazardous waste sites.
Laura, let’s go visit Asa and her students instead of the Nuremberg hazardous waste site. The new trip idea sounds more dynamic, more exciting, and seeing Asa is always a top goal of mine.
Sounds like a plan. :)
