awesome. I like how these pictures are kind of beautiful, while being horrifying. do you know if that mining photo is from Montana?
I think it’s Utah, though I know exactly what mine your referring. Lots of photos on the web… just not as pleasing to the eye.
I was gonna say, that one looks sort of like the pit in Butte. Or, the butte-hole of Montana.
That Chernobyl photo is otherworldly. And the other Chernobyl pictures, following that link, are amazing, too.
I was reading about the exclusion zone within Chernobyl proper, and how wildlife inhabited the area almost immediately after humans left it. So you’ve got these brutalist-style Stalintacular architecture and then deer and lynx and all sorts of stuff. Certainly makes for some jarring photos.
OK, after checking that link, my note was redundant. Damn.

I read today that there’s worry that wildfires will reach Chernobyl and take all of that radiation into the atmosphere. Firefighters are trying to hold it back.
